Topaz is really great at making really fake looking images. And to add insult to injury, if you ever have to deal with anyone at the company if you're having any sort of technical issues, well, helpful is not exactly in their vocabulary. It's probably good enough to fool the folks who don't know what to look for, and maybe one day it'll be really great but that day isn't today. Topaz gets it part way right and just hopes that we, the customers, don't notice all the flaws. While there might have been slightly more detail than some of Adobe's resizing options, it did it at the expense of natural gradations and smooth diagonals. When I demo'd AI Sharpen, it left all sorts of artifacts that just didn't feel natural.
The idea of a smaller rig is very appealing to someone in their eighties. IF this AI works, and that's a big if until we actually try it, then I might be ready to go all in on Fuji, and be able to let go of my A7rIV, which I can't yet let myself do. I don't think that algorithms are going to "do creative things better than humans." They'll do complex, repetitive tasks with great and useful efficiency, but that's a very different thing that what I think of as creativity.įor one thing, in creative work I'm ultimately most interested in the artist's way of seeing the world and what the body of work tells me about his/her vision. It can be down right scary to think what could be happening in our life times.
